Does it make sense to have all your policies with one company?
Do you have all of your insurance policies with one company? In some cases it does not. Let me explain.
Most households need the following insurance products at a minimum: Auto, Home, Health, and Life insurance. Some families choose or need additional products like Long-term care, and liability insurance (umbrella policy).
Only a hand full of Standard and Poor A+ rated companies sell all of these products. For example, don't settle for an inferior life insurance policy because you already have your home and auto insurance with the same company. Insurance companies can be good at certain products and not good at others. Don?t take the easy way out. Research each insurance product you buy. A discount can be very enticing and the added clout that it gives you with a company are certainly a consideration, but don't settle for an inferior product.
Specifically, your insurance carrier might specialize in auto, home and liability insurance. They very well might offer a life insurance policy, but it could be one that doesn't have the best rate, or in the case of permanent life insurance, the highest return.
A good thing to keep in mind is that it probably makes sense for you to carry your home, auto, and liability with the same company, but you should really do your research to find out if there is enough of a benfit to letting that same company provide you with your health, life and long term care insurance coverage.
Simply requesting a comparison quote from another company is usually going to answer a lot of questions. Ask each agent "why doesn't it make sense for me to let this other agent/company handle all of my insurance needs".
