Have you taken a safe driving class?
Automobile accidents are the leading cause of death for persons age 4 to 33. Statistics say over 33 million people have died in automobile accidents since coverage of auto accidents began around 1900. Auto insurance companies work with the major auto makers to promote safe driving for two reasons. Safe driving saves lives and reduces the cost of auto insurance claims.
The costs of insurance claims can impact the financial health of your insurance company. On average, insurance companies pay over $2 billion in accident related expenses. Reducing auto insurance claims has a direct impact on the cost of car insurance premiums.
By taking a defensive driving course you are not only going to become a better (safer) driver, but you will also reduce your insurance premium. I don't know of one person who I have spoken with that didn't come out of the course saying that they learned something new.
A defensive driving class is generally a six hour classroom course. However, more and more states are allowing the course curriculum to be taken online.
Courses are also referred to as the following:
- 'accident prevention course'
- 'insurance point reduction course'
- '55 and alive' (from AARP)
- 'Defensive driving course'
You can find a defensive driving course provider in your area on the following site iDriveSafely.com, or by checking with your State Insurance Department for approved providers in your state. Check our accident prevention course contact page for some phone numbers to most major defensive driving organizations.
